Gordon & MacPhail
Gordon & Macphail's Mortlach 25 year old
The Gordon & MacPhail 25-Year-Old Mortlach is a highly sought-after single malt Scotch whisky that masterfully tempers Mortlach’s famously muscular, meaty character with a quarter-century of elegant sherry maturation.
Bottled at 46% ABV by the legendary independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail, this release is part of their prestigious Distillery Labels range, which pays homage to the unique "house" labels granted to them by various Scottish distilleries over the decades.
Mortlach is known as the "Beast of Dufftown," and is Speyside’s oldest legal distillery (founded in 1823). It is famous for its highly complex, partial triple-distillation method (often referred to as "The Way") which runs the spirit through six uniquely shaped stills. This process creates a remarkably rich, savoury, and robust new-make spirit.
Appearance: Deep golden with rich coppery or amber hues.
Nose: Rich and full. Opens with aromas of orange marmalade, stewed dates, prunes, and dark fruitcake. This is accompanied by elements of beeswax polish, ginger, coffee, and subtle rum-soaked fruits.
Palate: Unctuous and full-bodied. Layers of dark chocolate, crème brûlée, toffee, and raisin give way to zesty citrus, cinnamon, clove, and a slight aniseed edge.
Finish: Delightfully long, extensive, and warm. The finish leaves a lingering impression of charred oak, cocoa powder, and a very faint, sophisticated hint of mint or eucalyptus.
